The Motherboard Blues

Albert White

When Music Maker’s Executive Director, Tim Duffy, heard that partner artist Albert White’s laptop had “died,” Tim realized it was an issue that required an immediate solution. Thanks to Music Maker’s Musician Sustenance program, a refurbished laptop was immediately in-the-works for Albert.

“The motherboard went out and they told me it would be cheaper to replace it than repair it,” explained Albert.

Albert, a Music Maker partner artist, is known for wowing audiences with his guitar performances. His stamina and unstoppable energy does not reveal that off-stage, mobility can be an issue for him. As a result, online payment of bills and communication by email is a critical service to him.

“He can definitely get around, but he has hip issues, so it’s not easy for him to walk real distances,” explained Abigail Nover, MMRF intern who traveled recently with Albert to the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was one of several artists performing in a Music Maker Blues Review that lasted for EIGHT hours!

“It was so cool to see that our musicians had more stamina than the younger artists at the festival,” Abby added.

Aaron Greenhood, MMRF Artist Services Coordinator, added, “if Albert did not have a functioning laptop, he would have to drive downtown to pay bills, which would be hard.” Aaron was able to find and purchase a refurbished laptop from and in just days, Albert was back in business.

Not only does Albert use the laptop for his business communications and bill payments, it is an important tool to keep him actively engaged in the music scene and building his knowledge through a variety of online music resources.

Albert appreciates his new laptop, and promises to return all fan emails promptly!
