Each song on “At Home in the New Orleans Musicians’ Village” feels like slowly, blissfully, sinking into yourself. The way Little Freddie King plays in this intimate recording is deep-toned and sweet, so warm and trance-like that everything seems to go still around the sound. But Angola Blues is deceptively complex– Little Freddie peppers in virtuosic runs across the fretboard amongst the driving mellow background, slowness and speed complimenting each other perfectly.
