Diggin’: Deer Clan Singers – Friendship Dance

inTheir Musicon March 17, 2017

The Deer Clan Singers are a family of the Tuscarora Nation of North Carolina led by Dave Locklear, Mark Deese, Pura Fe, and Chad Locklear who play complicated harmonies that are distinctive in the Indian genre.

Sometimes you never know where you’re going to find commonalities. The beginning of this song really brought me back to growing up and going to services at a Greek Orthodox church—the comforting melding of many voices, high and low, telling a story whose words I could never really follow, but whose emotion was always understood.
