inNewson April 25, 2019
We are thrilled to announce the public art component to our exhibit, Timothy Duffy: Blue Muse at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Large scale portraits of Music Maker partner artists Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen, Guitar Lightnin’ Lee, Boot Hanks, and Little Freddie King are currently on display on buildings across the city of New Orleans. For Pat Cohen, this serves as her first return to New Orleans since relocating due to Hurricane Katrina. Nola native Guitar Lightnin’ Lee says, “This is awesome, people have been calling me all day! It’s an amazing feeling to have my photo up in my hometown”.
As Music Maker celebrates it’s 25th anniversary, Jazz Fest celebrates it’s 50th by bringing Ironing Board Sam to perform on Sunday, May 5th. This will be Sam’s first time back in New Orleans since his stroke in 2015.
When asked about the importance of these colossal photographs around the city Music Maker founder and photographer Timothy Duffy had this to say, “For these artists to be represented in this way is huge. They are truly getting the recognition they deserve in a city that is emblematic of our musical traditions.”
The exhibit and public art will be is on view at the New Orleans Museum of Art through July 28th, 2019. You find a google map of all the public art locations and the pictures of them below:
