Since 2009 Music Maker has been partnered with Lakota John through our Next Generation program. This program was founded on the belief that our rich musical traditions must be embraced by younger folks in order to live on. Lakota John has grabbed that torch and ran about as far as one could go with it. Through the program, it’s extraordinary to see the evolution of these young musicians as they dive deep into themselves and traditional American music. In this Diggin’, we compare two versions of Lakota John’s take on the blue classic – Key to the Highway – one from his debut Music Maker release in 2013 and another from early 2019.
