This album takes recordings from two different sweat-soaked 70s nights. One, The New Palladium on Bankhead Highway, was the premier venue for the top touring black acts of the day. The Rockers delivered high-energy funk and soul exactly as it’s supposed to be; greasy horns, Hammond B3, passionate vocals, funky tight and fervor galore! The second venue was the equally urban Sportsman Oasis Ballroom. Both electrifying nights were captured by a low-fi cassette recorder placed on the stage.

Produced and remastered by Music Maker’s in-house engineer, Ardie Dean, the recordings are given all the polish they could afford. The experience of delving deeply into Albert’s catalog left Ardie with a deep respect for Albert’s mastery: “Albert White is a consummate guitarist with impeccable credentials. Raised by blues legend Piano Red aka “Dr. Feelgood,” he oozes Rhythm & Blues integrity. A masterful soul singer, it’s no wonder that Steve Cropper and Elvin Bishop both played on Albert’s award winning “Soul of the Blues” CD.”

The songs range from popular chart toppers by Teddy Pendergrass and the Four Tops, to inspired transformations of Willie Nelson and Leon Russell songs into golden soul dynamite. Also included are two tracks from Albert’s 1980s home recordings of The Four Souls that further spotlights Albert’s vast range of material.

Albert White, an Atlanta native, grew up playing behind his uncle, Piano Red, a legendary Rhythm & Blues powerhouse who had many hits including the song “Doctor Feelgood” famously covered by the Beatles. In Albert, the tradition of high energy, funky R&B lives on. Albert, and his band The Rockers played jukes, clubs, weddings and celebrations throughout the Southeast from the 1960s to the present. Along the way, they shared the stage with every notable R&B star that has traveled the circuit including Rufus Thomas, Ray Charles, The Tams, Joe Tex and many more. Albert White currently tours with The Music Maker Blues Revue. His upcoming shows include Roots & Blues & BBQ in Columbia, MO and a 2-week tour in November 2016 through Spain and France.
