Music Maker Relief Foundation’s popular Roots and Leaves Series: Celebrating the Legacy of Libba Cotten, will embark on it’s third year starting Friday, June 6^th.  The spring music series, at Southern Village in Chapel Hill, N.C., will be offered free to the public. The Roots and Leaves Series features traditional music from artists such as Pat ‘Mother Blues’ Cohen and Pura Fé on four Fridays in June from 6-8pm. Each performance will focus on a specific musical genre and highlight the cultural heritage of the local area. The event is made possible by support from the Strowd Rose Foundation, Market Street Associates and Bryan Properties.

Country Blues, on June 6th, will feature Jeffrey Scott and Harvey Dalton Arnold, former bassist for The Outlaws. Drummer Bubba Norwood, a Carrboro resident whose decades long music career included touring with the Monkees and Ike and Tina Turner, will back up Harvey.

Barn Stormin’ on June 13^th will highlight Boo Hanks’ rural, classic Piedmont Blues and follow with the honky-tonk style of Kelley and the Cowboys.

Native Threads, on June 2oth, will include performances from Nammy-award-winning artist Pura Fé Crescioni and traditional Tuscarora group the Deer Clan Singers. Both performances will touch on the shared cultural history of Native music and other traditions such as Blues and Folk.

The final show on June 27^th will transport audiences to a traditional Southern Drink House, featuring two-time Living Blues Artist of the Year winner, Ironing Board Sam, and Winston-Salem’s “happiest bluesman,” Big Ron Hunter. Bubba Norwood will join in on drums.
