Biography
Born in Rosa, Louisiana, Chuck Bush (photo by Gene Tomko) helped redefine Zydeco’s sound in the 80’s and 90’s for a new audience while playing bass behind Beau Jocque and then Terry Dominique.
How We Helped:
Music Maker partnered with Chuck in December 2019. He was in dire need of support after a slew of health problems. Music Maker has been able to cover some of Chuck’s bills and has worked to coordinate additional aid fro other organizations. Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, Music Maker has provided grocery delivers for Chuck, who tested positive for the the virus and is expected to make a full recovery.
When Chuck put down his guitar for a bass, first with the Zydeco Hi-Rollers, his aggressive style incorporating deep funk and rock put the whole Zydeco world on notice. Upon the sudden death of his first bandleader, Chuck became a free agent doing session work on countless records before brief stints touring with Sean Ardoin, Andre Thierry and many others.
Eventually Chuck landed a steady gig with contemporary Zydeco trailblazers Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys, who he continues to perform with when he is healthy enough.
